Job Description

About the Institution of Civil Engineers

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) enjoys an enviable reputation as one of the world’s leading professional organisations for civil engineers and technicians. Throughout its 200 year history, ICE has attracted many of the famous and influential civil engineers who were responsible for the design and construction of some of the world’s most iconic structures.

Civil engineers design, create and connect the world around us, helping to make our villages, towns and cities work for the people that live in them. The Institution is fundamental in ensuring the people who build the essential infrastructure that society needs to function effectively, such as transport systems, schools, offices, hospitals, and utilities are suitably qualified.

Today ICE has a global membership of over 92,000, and offers professional industry-standard qualifications, leads the debate around infrastructure and the built environment, helps to shape government policy, offers a sector-specific recruitment service and provides superior levels of training, knowledge and thinking.

The Opportunity

The independent member of the Audit Committee will be someone who has the relevant technical finance, audit and corporate governance skills honed within senior-level positions in similar complex (and commercial) environments. The post holder will demonstrate a commitment to the ICE Group Mission and 2025 Vision, and to communicating the essential work of the Institution to a wide audience of civil engineering professionals, infrastructure policy-makers and the general public.

The person

The postholder will share the commitment to ICE Group’s mission for the Institution to be a highly-respected organisation within its field and to offer sound independent judgement using expert knowledge. Similarly, the Audit Committee member will have a track record as a senior commercial finance professional and bring knowledge of audit, risk management and corporate governance. Holding a CCAB or similar qualification, he/she will help the Audit Committee ensure that effective audit functions and adequate risk management processes are in place, and the skills to work collaboratively with other committee members and wider Institution.

How to apply

If you have the skills and experience needed for this role and have an interest in joining an influential, independent organisation that uses expert knowledge to influence government policy and help the industry progress, we're looking forward to hearing from you.
