Job Description

Do you have current or recent, senior level audit, accountancy or finance experience and a sound understanding of audit, risk management, internal control and corporate governance processes?

We are looking for individuals interested in applying their skills and expertise to the work of our Audit Committee as an Independent External Member.

The role

The Coleg Gwent Board of Governors is responsible for providing strategic leadership and setting the educational character and mission of the college. With an annual turnover of c£58m it is also responsible for ensuring long-term financial sustainability, budget setting, the effective use of public funds, ensuring value for money and protecting the college’s assets. The Audit Committee has an essential role in this, monitoring internal controls, risk management, governance and compliance.

The committee meets four times a year and is made up of four Governors, plus two Independent External Members who provide an additional layer of independent scrutiny to its work. As well as relevant skills and experience you will need integrity, strong personal and professional values and experience of leadership at a senior level. An eye for detail and the ability to provide constructive challenge and ask difficult questions are essential. As a member of the Audit Committee, you’ll receive an induction and have the opportunity to attend college events and take an interest in the wider life of the college. External Audit Committee Members are occasionally invited to attend Strategy Seminar events with the Board and Senior Leadership Team.

In early 2021 the Torfaen Learning Zone, our latest state-of-the-art campus, is due to open in Cwmbran. Our outcomes are consistently excellent and we are committed to continuous improvement. Our vision is to be THE College of Choice. The Board and its sub-committees provide the strong and effective leadership needed to achieve this. We are particularly keen to hear from suitably qualified and experienced applicants from underrepresented groups including the BAME, disabled and LGBT+ communities.
