As the world’s leading chartered professional body for people responsible for safety and health in the workplace - with more than 47,000 members in over 130 countries - we are seeking to recruit Independent Committee Members to join our Board Committees.

The Finance and Investment Committee is responsible for aligning the use of resources (financial, workforce and assets) with the strategic direction of the organisation and support the Board of Trustees in meeting its fiduciary duties. The role includes seeking assurance from external investment managers on investment performance and advice from investment advisors on investment performance, policy and strategy, overseeing IOSH’s financial management, strategy, policy and treasury matters, and approving significant investment decisions under delegated authority from the Board of Trustees.

The role of Independent Committee Member is to provide impartial advice and support to the Committee, using any specific skills, knowledge or experience that they have to help the Committee to reach sound decisions and provide assurance to the Board of Trustees.

You should have experience of financial management, financial strategy and policy and budget review, gained at a senior level in a business environment. Ideally you will also have knowledge of investment management including investment strategy and performance review, with an understanding of the principles of investing reserve funds in equities and bonds, perhaps gained through being a trustee of a company pension scheme or a medium to large sized charity.

The role will require a commitment to attend four committee meetings a year near Leicester, UK, in addition to preparation time and occasional additional meetings where circumstances require it.

To ensure we have diverse and inclusive committees with different skills and perspectives, we welcome applications from a wide range of backgrounds, particularly women and Black, Asian and Minority Ethic as these characteristics are underrepresented on our committees.

The role is unremunerated, however reasonable expenses will be paid.

Millions of people have their lives severely affected because of the work they do, with illness, injury and death all too common. So, if you want to make a difference and be involved in making the global world of work safer, this is a great opportunity to get involved.
