AECC University College is a specialist higher education institution. Founded in 1965 as Europe’s first institution for chiropractic education and training, AECC University College has grown to become a leading institution of its kind, expanding its service provision and impact across a range of chosen specialisms in Health & Social Sciences. After being granted taught degree awarding powers in 2016, AECC University College was designated for receipt of direct public funding in 2017.
Having gained a Silver TEF rating, 100% student satisfaction according to NSS results (2018) and a 99% student employment record (2017), the University College has enjoyed considerable recent success. The institution’s newly launched School of Psychology, Sports and Physical Activity, sits alongside its established provision in Chiropractic and Diagnostic Ultrasound education and training. AECC University College also has a long established Clinic facility providing placements for student healthcare professionals in their final stages of training at the AECC University College.
The terms of office of four of our independent governors are coming to an end in 2019 and 2020. AECC University College is seeking to appoint four independent members to the Board of Governors. In addition we shall be looking to appoint a new Chair of the Board of Governors, Chair of Audit & Risk Assurance Committee and Chair of Finance & General Purposes Committee in the near future. This will be an exciting, challenging and rewarding time as AECC moves forward with expansion of its provision. This is an excellent opportunity to make a significant contribution to help an expanding new University College develop and increase inter-professional collaboration.
We are looking for candidates to work at Board level with experience of contributing to the shaping of strategy and review of performance objectives, who have the ability to maintain a strategic focus, and challenge management decision-making processes and outcomes. Candidates will have a range of skills including a well-developed commercial acumen and the ability to understand and interpret financial information. The following areas of expertise have been identified as priorities that will add immediate value to the Board:
Higher Education – experience in Higher Education at a senior level with knowledge of learning, teaching and quality assurance
Legal – experience of legal frameworks, contract law, employment law, litigation
Finance – financial / accountancy / audit experience at a senior level
Commercialisation – marketing and enterprise experience at director level both UK and internationally
IT – systems and digital learning experience and innovation
Health – non-executive experience on an NHS trust Board
Estates – Estates management and development
Members of the Board are expected to contribute approximately ten to fourteen days a year; the Board meets four times a year and most committees meet three or four times a year. The roles are not remunerated, although reasonable expenses are reimbursed.
