Job Description

LUPUS UK is looking for a trustee to join our board, which has a maximum of 12 voting members.

LUPUS UK is looking for a trustee to join our board, which has a maximum of 12 voting members. The successful candidate should have a record of fundraising, creating corporate relationships and leveraging charity assets.

The successful candidate should have a record of fundraising, creating corporate relationships and leveraging charity assets.  They should also be able to support the board in understanding more about its responsibilities in conforming with the highest standards of fundraising compliance and thinking strategically about income generation.

LUPUS UK employs a full-time Trust Fundraising Officer and a Fundraising Manager who coordinates all sponsored events. The successful candidate will work in consultation with these officers and the CEO.

This trustee position is not remunerated, but the charity covers all reasonable expenses.  The board typically meets four times a year, sometimes virtually.  Additional special meetings can be scheduled (strategy planning, information days) but not all of these are mandatory.  We are seeking a qualified candidate who is also highly motivated to help advance our work fighting lupus, a debilitating condition.

LUPUS UK is a small but prudent charity, with sufficient reserves to continue safely supporting its ongoing activities during the pandemic.  We are dedicated to creating a world where people with lupus can lead full and active lives.  Lupus is an auto-immune disease with a wide variety of symptoms, making identification and diagnosis difficult.  Delay in diagnosis is problematic and can cause symptoms to worsen.  A primary aim is therefore to raise awareness of the symptoms of, and triggers for, lupus among health professionals.  Further, we seek to enable high quality treatment, which we achieve through funding Specialist Lupus Nurses and through funding pilot research studies.  We have excellent relationships with leading professionals in the field and award a Centre of Excellence quality mark to outstanding clinics.

We support the empowerment of lupus patients through creating local and virtual communities and use our website and other social media channels to inform these communities.  We also offer a range of topical publications.
