Job Description

Heart of Kent Hospice, established in 1991, provides exceptional care for people with terminal illnesses in Maidstone, Aylesford, Tonbridge, Malling and surrounding areas.  The Hospice has built an excellent reputation within the local community for the quality of our care which has been further endorsed by the Care Quality Commission who have given the Hospice an overall rating of Outstanding.

Heart of Kent Hospice Board wishes to recruit new Trustees to widen its skill base and take the Hospice forward.


Role summary

The Board of Trustees, who are also directors of the Hospice, determines the overall direction and development of the Hospice through good governance and clear strategic planning, alongside commitment to our organisation values.

In addition to the above statutory duties, all Trustees should use any specific knowledge or experience they have to help the Board of Trustees reach sound decisions. This will involve focusing on key issues and providing advice and guidance requested by the Board on issues and initiatives relevant to the area of the Hospice's work in which the Trustee has special expertise.


Person description

The Hospice would welcome interest from candidates with sound business, management and strategic skills who would like the opportunity to contribute their skills to a local independent charity.  At this time, we are also seeking a candidate with experience of property development and a qualified finance professional.

Time commitment

  • Main Board, quarterly, approx. 2 hours
  • One Committee, quarterly, approx. 2 hours
  • Support to CEO
  • One away day per annum
  • Ad hoc attendance at other events
