Age Cymru Treasurer

Age Cymru is the national charity for older people in Wales. Our family includes local Age Cymru partners who provide vital services to older people in their area. Our national partners, Age NI  Age Scotland and Age UK.

Principal Responsibilities

The key elements of Age Cymru’s finance function are delivered by Age UK.  The Treasurer will need to ensure active and productive relationships with the Chair, Chief Executive and the Finance Business Partner and will have the opportunity to liaise with finance staff to obtain further information if required.

1.To ensure that appropriate finance policies, procedures and controls are in place.

2.To provide a view on the financial health of the organisation and on whether the financial resources meet Age Cymru’s present and future needs.

3.To keep the Board informed about its financial duties, responsibilities and obligations.

4.To ensure that financial reports to the Board of Trustees cover all aspects of the financial state of the Charity and aid the board in interpreting financial data provided to them.

5. To provide an informed view on financial viability of proposed new developments.

6. To ensure the regular review of the appointment of external auditors.

Person Specifcation

Essential skills

  1. Experience in financial matters gained from working in the private, government or charity sector or a qualified accountant

  2. An ability to scrutinise and probe financial statements, reports and balance sheet information

  3. An understanding of / sensitivity to the particular situation of a registered charity and knowledge of current financial issues facing charities

  4. The skills to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences
