Job Description

Smart School Councils is a teacher-led charity aiming to help every child engage and lead change in their world through democracy. 

We are recruiting a new trustee with experience fundraising from trusts and foundations. Having started and grown the charity through almost 100% earned income, we are beginning to explore grant income from trusts and foundations as a way to increase our impact and reach.

Purpose of the role: To play a lead role on the Board of Trustees through guiding our fundraising from trusts and foundations, resourcing growth and contributing to the wider work of the charity
 
Involving:
  • Be committed to the aims and values of the charity.

  • Support, challenge and advise on the charity’s plans, progress and staff. 

  • Ensure that charity expenditure provides value for money and is spent appropriately. 

  • Respect the boundaries between the role of a trustee and the day to day running of the organisation. 

  • Help to build the profile of the charity to generate more impact across more schools. 

  • Support the charity to offer a clear and compelling offer to schools. 

  • Attend four trustee meetings a year, serving a term of at least three years. This is renewable once, so the maximum term is six consecutive years. 

  • Maintain confidentiality of any sensitive information.

  • Setting the mission, vision, strategy, targets and high-level policies for the organisation.

  • Monitoring the performance of the organisation against this, and ensuring it meets all legal and regulatory requirements. Monitoring the financial stability of the organisation.

Person Spec: We are looking for an individual that has the experience to mentor and support our Director with trust and foundation applications and a fundraising strategy. You should be able to commit a minimum of 4 hours a month, alongside trustee meetings.
