Job Description

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about sex, wellbeing and relationship education to join the Board of Fumble as Trustees. As a Trustee, you will oversee Fumble’s governance and strategy. We are particularly interested in hearing from individuals who have experience in fundraising efforts, particularly for small or new charities. We are also looking for those with experience in chairing a Trustee Board.

Who are we and what do we offer?

Fumble is a new, exciting youth charity in the UK. We create a happy, healthy digital world of sex education with young people, for young people, and we advance the education of the public - particularly young people up to the age of 25 - on the subject of sexual health, wellbeing and relationships. We do this through our trusted, quality co-created digital content and our peer-to-peer relationships and sex education (RSE) programme.

Our mission is to make sure that young people have the skills and knowledge to successfully manage their sexual health, mental health and relationships today. We especially aim to meet the needs and experiences of young people that have been traditionally left out of mainstream provision of sex education, including LGBTQ+ young people, those living with disability, those struggling with their mental health, and those from minority ethnic groups.

We are a values-driven organisation, guided by our principles to be:

  • Relevant and non-judgemental

  • Inclusive and diverse

  • Engaging and accurate

  • Collaborative

What will you be doing?

As a Trustee, you will be expected to:

  • to ensure that the charity complies with its governing document, charity law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations and safeguard the good name and values of the charity;

  • to ensure that the charity pursues its objectives as defined in its governing document; and applies its resources exclusively for these objectives;

  • to contribute actively in giving strategic direction to the charity, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance;

  • to represent the charity and take part in functions such as fundraising and awareness raising where appropriate;

  • to be collectively responsible for the actions of the charity and other trustees;

  • to ensure the effective and efficient administration of the charity;

  • to make sure the charity is insured against all reasonable liabilities;

  • to attend meetings and sub-committee meetings (where needed);

  • to keep informed about the activities of the charity and wider issues which affect its work.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for people who are passionate about helping young people access happy, healthy sex and relationship education. It would also be desirable to have the following skills and/or experience:

  • Broad general management or leadership skills, ideally including experience in project management and/or strategic planning

  • An understanding and acceptance of a trustee’s legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities as set out by the Charity Commission

  • Confident and persuasive written and spoken communication skills

  • Experience in fundraising, and an interest in getting stuck in to help Fumble’s fundraising efforts

  • Good, independent judgement and creative thinking

What will you get out of the role?

  • Full induction into Fumble and our ways of working

  • A significant role in the development of Fumble’s journey

  • An opportunity to develop your leadership and project management skills

  • The chance to work closely alongside a team of committed, passionate, and fun people who want to make a difference to young people today

In this role, you will be required to attend board meetings every quarter (in-person is desirable, but online is also an option) with other Trustees to oversee the strategic development, financial security and day-to-day operations of Fumble.

To apply, please send your CV and a covering letter to Charlotte Chorley, Chair of the Board of Trustees at Fumble, at by Sunday 31st October. The covering letter should include why you would like to join the Board, and the specific skills and experience that you will bring to add value. Applications will be reviewed by the Board and CEO and anonymised cover letters will be reviewed by Fumble’s Youth Advisory Board. If successful, you will be invited to an interview with Fumble’s CEO and Chair of the Board of Trustees the week commencing 8th November.
