Finance Volunteer at Charity Supporting Ugandan Primary School

Our partner supports a Primary School in Uganda. The school offers a different type of education for the impoverished families of rural Uganda, one that seeks to address the factors that cause children to drop out of education so young.

The school has been going for ten years and hugely benefitted many lives, but it needs help to sustain and grow, which is where our partner comes in. They provide support through regular monthly donations to cover the costs of teachers salaries, by helping with training and organisation but also with budgeting and planning for the future.

Neither of the trustees have accountancy training, nor have either been involved in a charity before. They are therefore looking for a volunteer who has the required accountancy skills, to manage the charities finances. The existing Trustees would be keen for the post holder to join the Board as Trustee or Treasurer, but this is not an essential requirement.

Key tasks

  • Monthly bookkeeping (monthly transactions are so few, it likely be Excel rather than a proper accounting package)
  • Checking that the charity is claiming Gift Aid correctly
  • Preparing and filing end of year accounts -
  • File annual returns for the Charity Commission and Companies House

Time commitment

The role can easily be carried out remotely, but it’s important that the post holder can be available for at least half a day a month and able to work with the charity Trustees over phone and email.
