Job Description

Almost 5 million people are suffering significant food poverty in the UK while, at the same time, the UK food industry creates 3 million tonnes of waste each year. Plan Zheroes is a charity that provides practical solutions and support to help businesses redistribute their surplus food to local charities and community groupsinstead of sending it to landfill. In 2015, together with our partners, IT design and consultancy Keytree (keytree.co.uk) we launched an innovative mobile responsive platform that allows companies to connect with local charities and post their donations of surplus food online.The platform is used by many companies. We also run volunteer led food collections at four London markets including the iconic Borough Market. Since 2014, we have facilitated the redistribution of more than 250 tonnes of food or the equivalent of more than 500,000 meals for people in need. Today we are acknowledged experts in the field. 

As a small charity with income under £100,000 we have achieved a lot. We currently employ only one member of staff, supported by over 50 amazing volunteers.  We are looking to scale up and recruit a new trustee with financial expertise to join our board (the current finance trustee has served for the last 7 years).  The trustees play an important role in ensuring the governance and oversight for the charity and assisting with developing the strategy for the organisation at the quarterly board meetings and annual planning day.  In addition there are some financial administrative functions (normally 1-2 hours per month) to perform including:

Preparing annual report and submitting to Charities Commission including arranging independent examination

· Updating monthly accounts in accounting system (Xero) and reconciling bank account

· Submitting gift aid claims

· Ensuring compliance with Charity commission and ICO requirements including updating changes to trustees

· Preparing quarterly finance reports (P&L and cashflow forecast) for the Board

· Submitting invoices e.g. monthly to Borough Market

· Making payments for insurance, consultancy, website hosting, accounting software

· Making payroll payments, PAYE, including pension if any
