Salary: £27,000 – £30,000 (full-time equivalent), dependant on experience Hours per week: 22.5 hours per week

Probation period: 3 months

Why we are recruiting

With the steady growth of Aspire, we need to upgrade our finance function to ensure accurate and timely accounting and effective decision support to operational management. We have recently recruited a qualified accountant to head the Finance team and are now recruiting for a second part-time Finance Officer.

Overall Purpose of Job

The division of duties between the two Finance Officers is flexible, but it is envisaged that this post will have particular responsibility for the income cycle, our trading company, VAT and Fixed Assets. We are looking for a Finance Officer with good technical skills, accurate double-entry bookkeeping, a good grasp of VAT and the ability to work with a wide range of colleagues across disciplines and levels of the organisation. You must be selfmotivated, organised, a good communicator and be supportive of colleagues. The post may suit a part-qualified Accountant or fully –qualified Accounting Technician, but we will consider someone qualified by experience providing you have good technical skills. Key tasks and accountabilities Key tasks and accountabilities are intended to be a guide to the range and level of work expected of the post holder. This is not an exhaustive list of all tasks that may fall to the post holder and employees will be expected to carry out such other reasonable duties which may be required from time to time. The allocation of duties between the finance officers may change in the future. Unless otherwise stated all duties relate both to the Charity and its trading subsidiary.

Key tasks

 Manage the Sales Ledger, including: producing invoices and reconciling income to activity data; reconciliation of the Sales Ledger Control Account; production of aged debtor reports; liaison with customers; credit control.

 Preparation and submission of the VAT return (including partial-exemption and non-business VAT adjustments) and reconciliation to the VAT control account.

 Weekly bank reconciliation, preparation of cash movement reports and 12 week rolling cash forecast.

 Maintain the fixed asset register including depreciation journals, verification of assets and reconciliation to the nominal ledger.

 Reconciliation of control and suspense accounts.

 Calculating and posting recharges to the Trading Company and reconciliation of the inter-company account.

 Maintenance of balance sheet accounts.

 Prepare supporting schedules for monthly management accounts, annual accounts, budgets and forecasts.

 Preparation of analyses for the Trading Company and related activities.

 Providing financial advice to operational management in relation to the postholder’s areas of responsibility.

 Providing cover for the Finance Officer (Expenditure Cycle).

 Maintain relevant areas of Aspire’s computerised accounting systems on an accurate and timely basis.

 Maintaining accurate and orderly records of correspondence and queries.

Other

 Attend and participate effectively in team meetings, appraisal meetings, staff development sessions, etc. within the constraints of part-time working arrangements.

 Exhibit a strong team-working approach with the aim of maintaining a positive and productive work environment.

 Undertake such other duties which may be required reasonably and within the capability of the post-holder.
