Finance Officer (1 day a week on average)

Based in Eltham, South East London, Superkidz Community Trust is a small Christian foundation open to people of any faith or none.  Superkidz focuses its work on deprived communities and damaged young people.  Superkidz provides clubs, activites, mentoring and support to children and young people in the Borough of Greenwich.  It is supported by a small staff team who are dedicated to the Superkidz mission.  Staff are required to deal with situations which include anti-social behaviour, youth on youth violence, criminal activity and child protection issues. 

Overview of the role

The Finance Officer will manage all financial transactions for Superkidz, maintain accurate financial records and prepare and present the accounts to the Board of Trustees.

Main responsibilities and duties

  1. In discussion with the Manager and Treasurer, develop a three year financial plan to support the strategic plan, resource plan and schedule of activities.

  2. Ensure that the financial plan is regularly updated and fully co-ordinated with and monitored against the funding plan.

  3. Maintain financial information using Quickbooks online software.

  4. Prepare management reports with analysis and commentary for Trustees meetings, in discussion with the Treasurer and Manager.

  5. Monitor timelines for grants and funding, giving advance notice to the Manager of any potential issues arising from the expiry of funds.

  6. To provide financial information to support funding applications and reports.

  7. To prepare and file the annual report and accounts in consultation with the Manager and Trustees.

  8. Manage and administer payroll.

  9. Meet at least twice a month with the Superkidz Manager and at least once a month with the Fund Raiser.

  • The post reports to the Superkidz Manager and is accountable to the Trustees.

    The appointment will be reviewed after 6 months.

    The person appointed should have:                                 Experience of financial management and processing financial transactions, preferably in a small organisation

  • A sound understanding of double entry book-keeping, accruals and prepayments

  • Experience of preparing accounts and commentary for operational management

  • A recognised financial qualification (AAT, ACCA, CIMA, ACA) or equivalent experience

  • A flexible approach and be a team player

  • Excellent organisational skills and be attentive to detail

  • Good IT skills, particularly Excel

  • Commitment and passion for the Superkidz model and ethos

  • Desirable: knowledge of charity accounting

  • Desirable: knowledge of Quickbooks              

  • Hours: 1 day a week (on average)  - some remote working is possible.  Evening meetings with Trustees are every 2-3 months.

  • Salary : £35,000 p.a. (pro rata)
