YDMT Consultants Limited (YDMTCL) is a trading subsidiary wholly owned by Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT). Its purpose is to deliver commercial activities anywhere in the UK that are consistent with the aims and values of the charity. Activities include, rural regeneration, community development, landscape design, monitoring and evaluation, and project development and management. All profits from these activities are invested back into the charity.
Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust is looking for a passionate Voluntary Director to help guide the strategic direction of our trading subsidiary in line with our aims as a charity - to support people, landscape and wildlife.
We have ambitious plans for the future of our organisation and pride ourselves on being a “doing” organisation that makes a practical difference. As Director you will have a real opportunity to shape the strategic direction of YDMT Consultants Limited and support a team of team of motivated and committed people. Your role will have a direct impact on our ability to reach more people and deliver more projects that help to protect and enhance our spectacular landscape and precious wildlife.
The Board of Directors play an integral role in developing the strategic plan for the business. Working in partnership with other directors, the chief executive, and other senior staff, you will:
- Ensure that the company has a clear vision, mission and strategic direction and is focused on achieving these.
- Be responsible for the performance of the company and for its culture.
- Ensure that the company complies with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Act as guardian of the company’s assets
- Ensure that the company’s governance is of the highest possible standard.
- Ensure all company activities are in the best interests of the charity, YDMT.
The Board usually meets six times a year, currently online, but in person where possible. Although the role of Director is a voluntary one, travel and subsistence expenses can be paid.
We are looking for someone who shares our passion for people, landscape and wildlife, and has experience or a good understanding of our areas of work, to take our trading company from strength to strength. Business management experience, particularly of charity trading subsidiaries, would be advantageous; but there is no formal “person specification” and we would encourage anyone with a serious interest to apply.

Board meetings are held approximately 6 times per year either online or in person in Clapham, North Yorkshire, and last around 1-2 hours.
