Job Description

Be a part of it – Appointment to Gower College Swansea Corporation Board

Gower College Swansea, the local college, which provides education and training to over 4,500 full-time and 10,000 part time learners in the City and beyond, is looking for expressions of interest from individuals wishing to join its Corporation Board.

As a governor you will be helping the College to work towards its long term strategic objectives and short term plans and goals.

The full governor role, which is a voluntary position, requires a time commitment of around four or five hours or so a month, to review reports and attend meetings.  Much of the work of the Board has moved on-line recently and members are given support including equipment to maximise their contribution, and attendance at meetings can be easier to manage without travelling.  However, if you are unable to commit this amount of time you could still make a contribution through being a co-opted member to a committee of the Board (of which there are eight covering a range of activity) and attend around four to five meetings a year. We would, of course also want to invite you to events and activities taking place in the College.

The College needs the involvement of all parts of the community, particularly those who are represented amongst its learners but underrepresented on the Board. It is particularly interested in appointing someone with finance and accountancy skills at the moment, but an interest in further education is the main criteria.

Current Board members will tell you they do make a difference, they learn from the experience themselves, and they feel as though they make a contribution to their communities.

If you are interested you can discuss the role (without committing yourself) with Sharon Barron, Clerk to the Board, either by telephone, 01792 284222, or email  Alternatively I can put you in touch with another member of the Board who can tell you what is involved.

Further information on the College can be found at
