Job Description

About the role

Carers UK is the national membership charity for the 6.5 million people in the UK who are unpaid carers. As an organisation we provide expert advice and information for carers, campaign for greater recognition and support for carers, and use our experience and expertise to help other organisations do more for carers.

Our vision is of a society that respects, values and supports carers.

Our Board of Trustees plays a vital leadership role in the work we do while ensuring the charity is equipped and governed effectively, establishing and monitoring strategy and ensuring we are true to our values and keep carers at the heart of everything we do.

As we enter this pivotal phase for strengthening and developing our position as the UK’s largest membership organisation for carers, we wish to appoint a new Chair. Our Chair, David Grayson, will be standing down in October 2020, having completed his term of office.

Who we're looking for

It’s an exciting time to be part of Carers UK, as we work towards a fresh vision of the world we want to create by 2021. Our Board is instrumental in ensuring we make a real impact for carers while fulfilling all our obligations as a charity. This is a fantastic opportunity to chair the UK’s leading national carer organisation, working with a committed and talented executive and wider staff team.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about Carers UK and can inspire our board and lead the organisation towards its pivotal 60th anniversary in 2025. We are looking for someone who can bring enthusiasm and drive as we embark on a strategy review and a new strategy. Your natural style as Chair will be collegiate and collaborative, yet also challenging and able to act as a critical friend to the Board and executive. We are looking for someone who possesses diplomacy and can be visible to our members.

Carers UK is committed to representing the diverse society in which we work and actively encourages applications from people with current or recent experience of caring from all backgrounds and experiences.
