Job Description

I CAN the children’s communication charity is actively seeking Trustees due to a number of their current Board members reaching the end of their tenure. As experts in helping children develop the speech, language and communication skills they need to thrive in the 21st Century, the charity offer a number of programmes and services throughout the UK offering support to parents, children and practitioners as well as operating two Ofsted Outstanding specialist schools supporting children with severe and complex communication needs.

Chair of Trustees – After nine successful years, the Chair of Trustees will soon step down. We’re looking for a high-calibre individual to build on his achievements, lead the Board and work with the Chief Executive to drive the organisation forward into the next phase of the strategy, whilst ensuring that that the charity fulfils their charitable obligations and continues to ensure strong governance.  An outward facing spokesperson for the charity you will possess excellent networking and stakeholder management skills and be a credible figurehead.

All Trustees have a duty to ensure that the charity is well run, solvent, legally compliant, and working towards I CAN’s charitable purpose for which it was established and Trustee roles are an important and a highly rewarding way to support an organisation. Please note that Trustee roles are unremunerated voluntary positions, although reasonable travel expenses will be paid.

I CAN is committed to equality of opportunity, supports and encourages under-represented groups and values diversity. We seek people from a wide range of backgrounds, who will bring a fresh perspective to the Board and having reviewed our existing Trustees diversity, skills and experience, we are keen for our Board to reflect the diversity of the communities that we work with and we therefore welcome applications from all sections of the community.
