About Havens Hospices
When a family has been told that there’s no cure for their loved one’s illness, Havens Hospices can help. We’re here to make the journey as comfortable as possible, controlling pain and medication, offering respite and caring for adults, babies, children and teenagers at the end of their lives. Our specialist care is free – for as long as is needed – within the home, in the community and at our two hospices.
Havens Hospices incorporates Fair Havens Hospice, Little Havens Hospice and The J's Hospice.
About the role
Havens Hospices faces an exciting and challenging time, as it takes forward its plans to build a new Fair Havens. We are looking to appoint two Trustees with clinical experience to support the Hospices mission and ensure it is effectively led.
This is unique opportunity to be involved at the highest level of this vibrant and important local charity.
Previous Trustee experience is not essential, applicants would however need current or recent background and expertise in children’s and/or adult health services as a provider or commissioner at a senior level.
Trustee responsibilities are wide and varied and include: giving leadership to the organisation; setting its strategic direction; and ensuring its activities come within the scope of its governing documents, are compliant with relevant legislation and are adequately resourced.
Trustees are required to:
- Attend up to 6 Trustee meetings per a year
- Chair the Care Sub Committee and attend up to 4 meetings a year
- Complete Provider visits
- Attend the AGM , strategy days and represent the Hospice at external events
- Attend and participate in training as and when required
Trustees are given full support, comprehensive induction, training opportunities and assigned a mentor. Out of pocket travel expenses are provided.

Havens Christian Hospice is a Christian organisation and its Governing Documents require Trustees to be Christian.
Person specification
Skills
- Commitment and availability to attend Board meetings
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proven track record of sound judgement and effective decision making
- Strategic vision
- Ability to work effectively as a team while contributing an independent perspective
Experience
Previous Trustee experience is not essential, applicants would however need current or very recent clinical experience in children’s and/or adult health services, ideally within the specialty of palliative/end of life care.
Talents
Courageous, effective thinker with the ability to convey complex clinical information in simple terms to non-clinicians on Trustee Board.
