About Breadwinners (watch video)
Breadwinners is an ambitious grassroots charity set up in April 2016. We provide Londoners with the best organic artisan bread while empowering refugees through, employment, work experience, entrepreneurship opportunities, training and mentoring.
Today, Breadwinners sell the highest quality organic artisan bread on farmers markets across London, employing refugees. We are the first stepping stone for unemployed refugees and young people seeking asylum into a safe and supportive working environment, where they can gain the skills, confidence and experience to move into long term work and improve their wellbeing.
We have built relationships with high-quality bakeries, The Celtic Bakers, The Snapery Bakery, who support our social cause and provide us with bread at the very cost of it, allowing us to have a cost advantage.
We work in partnership and take referrals from TERN, Groundworks, Akwaaba, Freedom from Torture, Refugee Youth and The Refugee Council.
We currently run 7 markets (Primrose Hill Mkt, Chelsea Partridges Mkt, Lloyd Park Market, Maltby Street Mkt x2, Victoria Park Mkt and Chatsworth Rd Mkt), and have the funds to grow 4 more, providing the first UK job to a total of 16 Refugees and supporting 28 young people seeking asylum per year.
We have provided the first UK job to 14 refugees on our “Breadwinners Programme” and 100% of them have moved into full time work or become entrepreneurs after working for Breadwinners, and on average have done so in 6 months with Breadwinners.
We have trained and provided volunteering work experience to 31 young people seeking asylum on our “Risers” programme.
We have piloted and tested a bicycle delivery model in the past, and looking for new innovative business models to support refugees.
People love our bread, brand and our social mission. What makes us a unique charity is the fact that we sell something people want, and this allows us to tackle the refugee unemployment problem directly, by providing amazing people with the opportunity to work. You will have the chance to help scale Breadwinners to further beneficiaries across London. If you're looking for a job which you can own, which will challenge and excite you everyday, while meeting incredible people making a big difference - you've found it here.
“We believe refugees have extraordinary potential as entrepreneurs, employees and members of local communities. We sell the best artisan organic bread to support them to build a fresh start, providing self employment, training, and business opportunities, to become an active part in the community”
