Job Description

The Suited & Booted Centre Limited (Suited & Booted), a small charity based in the City of London, needs a volunteer to act as bookkeeper and to prepare our annual accounts.

The charity

Suited & Booted works with public agencies and charities to help vulnerable unemployed men get into work, by providing them with donated interview clothing. In the last year we helped over 1,500 clients. We have no paid employees and rely on a team of volunteers. For further information about the charity see our website or watch the short BBC video clip

The role

The role involves day-to-day bookkeeping, and the preparation of annual accounts for approval by our independent external examiner. The charity uses Sage accounting system (there is no payroll). The key elements of the role are as follows:

Record cash receipts and payments and bank account transactions

Monitor and record on line donations and Gift Aid

Produce monthly management accounts for the Trustees and Chief Executive

Help to produce formal annual accounts in accordance with Charity Commission SORP rules, for approval by an independent external examiner.

The person

We need a volunteer (unpaid) to work about half a day per week. The work can be done at home.

To do this job you will probably need AAT Level 3/4 accounting qualification or equivalent, or previous experience in a similar bookkeeping role. Some familiarity with the Sage accounting system is desirable.

However, if you can help with the bookkeeping, but do not have an accounting qualification, or perhaps have a relevant qualification but do not have time to volunteer throughout the whole year, we would still be very interested to hear from you.
