The Organisation
Rumney Forum is a grassroots charity formed in 2015.
      We are committed to making Rumney an even better place to be. We do this through creating
 events and activities to bring the community together and by providing a sustainable,
 environmentally conscious space at The Old Library in Rumney for the people of east Cardiff and
 beyond to socialise, share skills and create strong community bonds. We are rooted into and led
 by the community we serve.
 We have steadily grown in this time and have a committed board of trustees that have worked
 tirelessly meet our aims and objectives. We are currently transforming an ex council run library
 into an open access community space with several projects like a Fareshare foodbank and
 Benthyg – Wales’ first Library of Things. We also run popular community events like Rumney
 Beach, an annual Christmas Tree Festival and various weekly and ad hoc events at the Old
 Library.
 We are now looking for Board Trustees who can utilise their skills, experience and knowledge for
 the benefit of the charity, helping us achieve our aims and making a difference to the local
 community.
 The Role
 Supporting the Board to lead Rumney Forum, you will provide sensible, relevant leadership
 experience to assist with Board discussions, exercising sound judgement to ensure the
 organisation is compliant and is carrying out the purposes for which it is set up.
 You will ensure Rumney Forum succeeds as a community focal point by supporting the Board
 and volunteers through experience, networks and mentoring.
 You will also act as an effective ambassador for Rumney Forum and contribute to the success of
 the charity by providing adequate time, thought and energy to your role, for example by preparing
 for, attending and actively participating in trustees’ meetings, adding value to community events
 and projects run by the organisation.
 The Individual

 Ideally you will have knowledge of obtaining funding from various sources. An understanding of
 sustainability and environmental concerns, and good knowledge of the area are desirable. The
 most important thing is a desire to make Rumney an even better place to live!
 With a strong interest in community cohesion and an empathy with Rumney Forum and its
 objectives, you will possess a willingness to engage in fund-raising activities and be a fluent
 communicator who can represent the organisation externally.
 You will hold some understanding of the charitable status of Rumney Forum and its relationship
 with funders, local community and project stakeholders.
 You will be committed to ensuring diversity throughout the organisation, able to contribute in a
 collaborative manner to ensure productive discussion and debate at board level, exercise good
 judgement with strong leadership and inter-personal skills and appreciate the non-executive
 nature of the role but with a readiness to support the organisation as appropriate
 In addition, Rumney Forum is looking for specific skills from amongst its new appointees: Legal /
 governance, finance, fundraising, marketing, events, grassroots / community engagement.
