Job Description

Our vision is to be the first-choice provider of supported housing for adults with a learning disability. To help us achieve this ambition we are looking to recruit new Board Members.

Fairoak Housing Association is a small Registered Provider based in Kendal with a committed Board and team of staff who share a passion and determination to transform the lives of people with a learning disability or autism, by providing the highest quality housing and support services.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive difference to people’s lives. You do not need to have previous Board experience but you will have operated in a leadership capacity and have a good understanding of governance and risk management.  Your values will be aligned to our own and you will share our passion for supporting our customers to live independent and fulfilling lives within our local communities.

In order to complement the current skills we have on our Board, and replace those that we will soon lose, we are particularly interested in receiving applications from those with experience in one of more of the following areas:

  • Commissioning of supported housing, social care or other related support services
  • Working with or knowledge of the needs of adults with learning disabilities
  • Combatting social exclusion and/or promoting inclusion and engagement
  • Working with or for local authorities to deliver housing or support
  • Finance and audit
  • Asset management and compliance in social housing or a related sector
  • Legal (with a particular focus on commercial property expertise)
  • Strategic HR and Organisational Development

There are nine board meetings a year, primarily held in Kendal but may also be online from time to time, and you will need to be willing to commit the time and energy necessary to understand the organisation, prepare adequately for meetings and attend any training and development sessions for the Board.

If you would like to find out more, and to help you decide if this could be the role for you, please contact our Chief Executive, Lisa Chant on 01539 720082 or at

To apply you will need to submit a CV and a supporting statement by email.

Further details about the role and process of application can be found at

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Monday 6th September 2021
