Job Description

Bewdley Museum is based in the centre of Bewdley town and is a Museum serving the whole of Wyre Forest. Entry is free. The role of the Museum is broadly to conserve and display the unique collections of the Wyre Forest area, for the enjoyment of the public.

Help us to establish an Independent Trust at a Local Authority heritage museum in Bewdley working as part of a new board to negotiate and manage the transition.

 

Role summary

As a Trustee of Bewdley Museum, you will participate fully as a Board member, agreeing strategies and the business plan, promoting ideas, exercising judgement and taking collective decisions on the full range of strategic responsibilities such as budget setting and monitoring, appointment and dismissal of staff and setting their terms and conditions,  building maintenance, collections and disposal policies, contractual arrangements and so on. Throughout you will be generally supporting the aims and objectives of the organisation and complying with charity law and your duties as a trustee. 

 

Person description

A relevant professional qualification e.g. membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development or extensive experience from management roles in a significant organisation.

Experience of performance management, HR/employment law issues and implementing them.

Where the trustee would be expected to lead

  • To review and recommend HR and organisational development policies and strategies for the organisation, relating to staff, volunteers and trustees;
  • Developing job description and person specification for recruitment of museum manager, as well as arrangements for appraisals and other HR processes in respect of that post
  • Supporting the museum manager as appropriate, and in accordance with adopted policies, in respect of recruitment, appraisal and other HR processes for other staff;
  • Acting as lead trustee in respect of the process for TUPE transfer of staff from WFDC and advising the Board as appropriate;
  • To ensure that HR activities and interventions are linked to the company’s charitable objectives and complement the organisation’s culture.

  • Working together and not pursuing personal or sectional interests at the expense of organisation interests
  • Respecting the confidential nature of information relating to the business of the charity in accordance with information governance and data protection policies.

Time commitment

The time commitment will be variable. It is anticipated that there will be a need for greater time commitment in the early months.
