Unreal is a new mental health charity, established in 2019. We are the only charity in the UK that exists for Depersonalisation Derealisaton Disorder (DPRD) - one of the most common yet under-recognised psychiatric conditions in the world.
Our mission is to reach out to people with lived experience of DPRD and their carers and families. We seek to raise awareness of DPRD, to provide support and to promote involvement through providing up to date information, signposting, networking, the sharing of experiences and by celebrating success.
It is an exciting time for Unreal as we prepare for our launch in 2020. At such a pivotal time for the charity, and to achieve our objectives, we are looking for an enthusiastic and committed individual with accounting experience to join our Board.
The ideal candidate for this role will have accounting experience, preferably with a qualification or working towards a qualification
Ability to both constructively challenge and support the team
Ability to work as part of a team, with a strategic vision and a commitment to the organisation
A commitment to the work of Unreal and its constituent parts
A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to the role
An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of the role
Able able to attend a monthly board meeting in London
Previous experience within the charity sector and especially within the mental health sector
Some experience or an interest in fundraising is desirable
An understanding of the voluntary sector and previous experience as a charity board member or trustee
Being an Unreal board member offers a number of benefits:
Opportunities to boost your public profile
Opportunities to build valuable networks and relationships
The chance to give something back to an organisation that really values your support
The chance to help people to access much-needed support, advice and information
The reward of being involved in a charity from the early stages and watching it grow
Working with a friendly and dedicated group of people
