Extinction Rebellion UK (XRUK) (ranked by social media analytics company, Onolytica, as COP 25’s number one global influencer) is supported by a service company, Compassionate Revolution Limited (CRL), which holds the bank accounts and provides financial support to the movement.
CRL handles XRUK's annual revenues of c£1-2m+ per annum (50-70% of which are small one off or regular (unrestricted) donations from the British public). The remainder are larger donations from individuals and foundations which are likely to be restricted in some way (e.g. Charity Commission objects of public education etc.)
CRL's existing chartered accountant is standing down after 16 months in the role and a replacement is urgently required - a full and detailed handover will be provided in April 2021. The current incumbent has third sector experience having been previously a trustee on the board of Friends of the Earth. They leave the team having established simple and robust procedures. The accountant is supported by a part time bookkeeper who has been in role for c2 years.
This volunteer role requires c10-15 hours a week, is flexible and can be performed from home. You would be one of the Finance Team of volunteers of c8-10 people.
Despite XRUK's purpose (to highlight the climate and ecological emergency and demand action via non-violent civil disobedience) this role is all about supporting the movement with good advice and lawful financial and company governance.
If sitting in the road is not for you, but you care for the futures of your children and grandchildren then this role might be ideal for you? For every rebel arrested on the streets, we have a dozen wonderful caring (non-arrestee) volunteers which provide the movement with support and care.
Someone once said "Accountants will save the world" - this volunteer role might just be one of the pieces in the jigsaw to do that!
