London-based conflict monitoring NGO Airwars is looking for a new volunteer Treasurer to assist its small, high impact team.
Airwars is a London-based non-aligned, not-for-profit organisation monitoring international military actions in multiple conflict zones - which presently include Iraq, Syria and Libya. We track and assess allegations of civilian harm. And we work where possible with militaries to help them better understand civilian harm - with the aim of reducing casualties. Headquartered at Goldsmiths, University of London, we have quickly become a globally respected independent voice on this key issue.
Currently, we employ 20 full- and part-time staff and contractors across the UK, Europe, North America, the Middle East and North Africa. Our funding is primarily via grants from large philanthropic funds, as well as some public donations. Airwars is registered in England and Wales as a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee, and we have also recently secured equivalency determination certification regarding US charity law compliance.
The volunteer Treasurer is one of four legal directors of Airwars, and has oversight of an annual budget currently in the region of £350,000, which is expected to grow. The Treasurer also supports the Airwars Directors through the provision of financial information, advice and budgeting guidance. The role is supported by a part-time bookkeeper and our chartered accountants.
The Treasurer post would suit someone with solid finance experience either in the private or third Sector, who would relish the challenge of helping advise and grow a NGO doing vital work aiding vulnerable people in conflict zones. For further details, please contact Dmytro Chupryna, our Deputy Director in confidence: firstname.lastname@example.org
Expected duties would be as follows:
- Oversight of bank accounts and bookkeeping work
- Advising where necessary on statutory reports to funders
- Oversight of the preparation and provision of information for accountants, to enable drawing up of annual accounts.
- Attendance at the AGM and monthly Executive Board meetings.
