Chair of Finance Committee
The Board is seeking a new board member with a financial background, to lead the Finance Committee and the small administrative unit in providing financial direction and underlying management reports ( a new Sage accounting system is newly installed) and supporting the work of the Business Development Committee. The Board typically meets 4-6 times a year but as Chair of the Finance committee, you would expect to be in the inner cabinet of decision makers, and working reasonably closely with the GM and Chair in financial matters.
The company has recently embarked on a new growth strategy, and has developed a fund raising campaign to support this, led by our general manager. Early indications are that we have good reason to believe that this will be successful. In the short term, cash flow management and investment management remain priorities as they have done for the past 50 years.
There is very much a family atmosphere about the Orchestra and team, even so we are very much behind the business goal of growing the company’s reputation, its funding base and its output. This role is essential in supporting the company as it moves forward.
Key tasks would include:
Leading the Finance committee meetings and representing finance at Board meetings.
Developing a reporting structure with the admin staff to meet the management needs of the board;
Reviewing financial reports before they are submitted to the board;
Ensuring all company accounts and returns are scheduled and submitted on time;
Working with Business Development to develop annual budgets for programmes of work and central costs;
Working with the inner team on central planning providing general advice and guidance on financial matters.
