African Vision Malawi is a registered charity formed to give life and hope, to a region of Malawi, the "Warm Heart of Africa". We are supporting around 3,000 orphans and vulnerable people in their villages. We support 14 centres in an area about 15km by 20km North West of the capital, Lilongwe.
We are dedicated to helping children, whose childhoods have been suddenly taken away from them, due to illness, poverty and the HIV/AIDS pandemic. The amount of these affected children is incredible. A generation is slowly being eliminated, leaving elderly to take care of the young.
Since we started in 2005 we have put up schools, built over 50 wells and a maternity unit. Our focus is on providing self-sufficiency to give these people a hand-up rather than a hand-out.
We have a major project over the last and next 2 years which has been generously funded. Using traditional techniques and resources we will be building a village that will primarily be an education site for agricultural teaching and vocational training. Providing up to 40 people residential training continuously, we will be able to tackle areas of great need including AIDS prevention, permaculture, craft skills e.g. thatching, small business training and many others.
