Governor (Director and Trustee)
We are the Board of Governors (the Council) of an independent girls' school. All governors serve on the full council and on one or more committees depending upon their interests, skills and the time they can donate. The practical operation of Council is governed by its Standing Orders including the Terms of Reference for Council and each committees.
All governors see the minutes of all meetings and can question (and be questioned) on subjects they are interested in, want more understanding of, or are skilled in.
Due to a current governor having completed the 3 terms of 3 years on Council allowed by our rules, we are seeking a replacement to be a governor and the Chairman of the Finance, Resources and Business Development committee. We believe that the role is best filled by a qualified accountant of at least 10-years experience who also has the practical and pragmatic long-term approach acquired from managing a successful business. An individual who knows when to speak and when to listen; when to guide and when to support both Council and the School's Senior Executive including the Director of Finance.
Typically we meet for 2 to 3 hours during the working day, at a time scheduled to suit the majority of attendees and on a day in the School' Year calendar released in May. The Chairman of the FR&BD would expect to attend 4 Council, 2 Strategy and 4 to 5 FR&BD meetings at school with agenda and papers received 1 week before.
Aside from the significance of the position to the financial health and development of the school, the governors are a very supportive team with much opportunity to learn from each other as well as from the school's Senior Executive team. Governors are invited to a number of functions at the school.
