Suffolk Punch Trust (SPT).  The Trust’s mission is to preserve and promote the Suffolk Punch horse which is the oldest breed of heavy horse to exist in its present form.   Our visitor centre, museum and Suffolk heritage garden comprise a key tourist attraction within the Suffolk coastal area.

Our current Treasurer will step down at the end of 2017 having implemented robust financial reporting processes and migrated the accounts to a new version of Sage accounts.  The Trust employees a part-time bookkeeper but we rely on the Treasurer for oversight and for preparation of management accounts.

We are seeking a Treasurer with relevant experience in private, public or voluntary sectors.  Whilst experience in the charitable sector is desirable, proven capability in financial management roles will be essential.   The Trust is a small organisation with a Visitor Centre Manager, Farm (Stud) Manager and Finance Administrator.  The Treasurer is on the management board that comprises 6 trustees.

The responsibilities of the Treasurer will include:

>  preparation & presentation of monthly management accounts and finance reports to the trustees;

>  preparation of annual accounts, liaison with the Independent Examiner; contribution to Chairman’s Annual Report;

>  supervision of the SPT bookkeeper to ensure accurate book-keeping and payments;

>  oversight of the use of the finance package system (SAGE) to ensure that SPT make most effective use of the system;

> review of internal financial procedures so they are robust and fit-for-purpose;

> working with the board and the management team, prepare the annual budgets and financial projections; implement effective monitoring of the budgets;

> oversight of all submissions of accounts to external authorities and bodies, including gift aid and VAT returns.

The role requires on-site time of about one day per week.
