Islington Law Centre - Trustee with accounting experience

The Trustee Role - Islington Law Centre is led by its Board of Trustees, who are responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity. Being an Islington Law Centre Trustee is an influential and valuable role and you will make an important contribution to our current work and future direction.

Islington Law Centre Trustees are often designated to lead our governance on a specific area of responsibility. On this occasion, we are seeking to recruit a Trustee who will assist in the oversight of our financial management, accounting and auditing arrangements, support and challenge our accounting practice, management accounting, (including strategy, performance and compliance) and who will also be a key member of the Audit & Risk Committee.

Person Specification - (1) a commitment to the Law Centre’s aims, values and work; (2) a qualified accountant with business management experience; and (3) strong inter-personal and relationship-building abilities.

Knowledge and Skills - (1) an ability to contribute to the work of the Trustees, particularly through the application of accounting / financial management skills; and (2) an understanding of the role of a Trustee and how Trustees can contribute to the governance and performance of the Law Centre

Time Commitment - There are twelve meetings a year – six Board meetings and six Audit & Risk committee meetings on alternate months. Meeting are in the evenings from 6.30 to 9.00 and are held either in Islington or in Chancery Lane. In addition there is a strategy half-day once a year on a Saturday morning. You may also be invited to attend occasional events to support the charity and be asked to provide support and advice when appropriate.

This is an unpaid role, however, some employers encourage and enable trusteeship as part of wider career development and corporate social responsibility.

An induction programme will be provided and the opportunity to attend trustee training provided by our auditors. Trustees are general expected to serve an Initial term of office of 3 years.
