We are a small Hertfordshire charity supporting families of children and young people who have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and/or Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and we are now seeking to extend the base of expertise within our board and are looking for an additional trustee position with particular expertise in finance.
Our board currently includes representatives from the commercial outsourcing, commercial contract, legal and medical professions.
We are seeking an individual from a business background who will contribute to the team approach of managing ADD-vance, who is a Chartered Accountant with a solid working background and experience in financial management. This position lends itself to a person with an interest in ADHD and autism, though is not mandatory.
Trustees need to be able to commit for a period of three years to work with the management team of ADD-vance to enable the continued success of ADD-vance and further develop the organisation.
The workload is not onerous for a person working full time, trustee meetings are held 5-6 times per year, near St Albans or Harpenden, in an evening for 2 hours. There is some small amount of preparation time reading minutes of meetings, or reviewing papers.
Additionally, we need our new trustee to provide knowledge and guidance to the trustees and management team relating to their finance profession. We need to ensure we remain compliant with appropriate legislation and aware of current practice so that we have appropriate procedures and policies.
We currently successfully report our finances annually, after an examination by an independent (voluntary) examiner, to the Charities Commission and produce a modest report and accounts. We also do our own budgets for the submission of bids for funds and are continuously developing our financial modelling practices to help us plan our financial position.
We are a happy, positive and enthusiastic team of trustees supporting a very talented small group of individuals who manage the day-to-day operations and deliver extremely high quality services to families in Hertfordshire from our office in Hatfield.
At ADD-vance we are passionate in our aims to make a difference. Board members should have an interest in supporting families of children with mental health problems in Hertfordshire. Awareness training is available for board members in ADHD and ASD if required.
We are conscious and respectful of time pressures to anyone considering applying who is currently working full time or part time and would not expect the above role to be burdensome.
ADD-vance was set up in 1996 as a voluntary organisation to support families of children and young people who have Autistim/Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and/or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in Hertfordshire
We support families through our telephone helpline, our support groups and our team of specialist behavioural coaches. We also run an information and training service for parents throughout Hertfordshire and the same for professionals in managing these conditions both in schools and in the community.
Recruitment: A telephone exploratory discussion and one formal meeting.
